Aquatic Film and Photography Festival—FREE
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC—A SPECIAL SHOWING of award winning aquatically oriented films and photographs:
Tuesday, April 14th. Doors open at 7:30 PM. Films 8:00–11:00 PM. This will be located at the Pinnacle Hotel, Harbourfront Ballroom.
Also, the aquatic film and photograph viewings will be open to the public on Tuesday, April 14 and Wednesday, April 15 from 10:20 AM–5:20 PM at the Pinnacle Hotel, Salon F.
The Western Division of the American Fisheries Society (WDAFS), Washington/British Columbia Chapter of AFS (WA-BC) and the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) invite you to attend the 2020 Vancouver Aquatic Film and Photography Festival. This film and photography festival will occur in Vancouver, British Columbia, April 13-17, 2020 during the WDAFS annual meeting. Films and photos will focus on aquatic themes (freshwater, estuarine, and marine) that advance our understanding, appreciation, and management of ecosystems, or showcase the beauty of science. It is our hope that films address the meeting theme of “Crossing boundaries and navigating intersections.” Films will be less than 30 minutes–preference will be given to shorter films (ideally 10 minutes or less). Photographs will be displayed on a large screen during the plenary session. The best photographs will receive awards and be recognized during the conference.

Spawning Run
The Western Division 2020 Spawning Run will provide a tour of Vancouver’s harbour and the forests and waterways of Stanley Park. Take a morning break from the conference to run/walk along some of the city’s prettiest pathways. Expect a 5-6 km route, at the pace of your choice, along paved and gravel pathways. We will depart from Harbour Green Park near the Pinnacle Hotel, cruise along the seawall with views of the North Shore mountains, loop through the forests of Stanley Park, around Lost Lagoon (keep your head up for great blue herons and waterfowl), and back along seawall as the city awakes. Come fill your lungs with the fresh coastal air with us!

Salmon Science Social

The Salmon Science Network is excited to host a social with some finger food and a cash bar. Join us to see friends and colleagues and make new connections within the broad community of salmon scientists!
Learn to Fish Event
Date: Friday, April 17, 2020
Time: 12:00–2:00 pm
Location: TBD; a local lake
Target Audience: Youth, ages 5–15
Join the Freshwater Fisheries Society of British Columbia for this FREE, 2 hour session where you’ll learn the basics of freshwater fishing. Fishing rods are provided, and the session includes time fishing on a local lake. Parent supervision is required. Transportation to and from lake is provided if needed.
Please keep in mind that a minimum of 6 participants are required to finalize this event.
