Call for Abstracts – Spokane 2022

Oral and Poster Presentations

Abstract Submission Opens: March 1st, 2022
Abstract Deadline: April 8th, 2022
Theme

Our theme, “What do fish mean to us?” seeks to examine the ways that people value fish and fisheries from a variety of perspectives. We expect to develop a program that includes symposia that cover topics of marine, estuarine, and freshwater fisheries management; commercial, subsistence, and sport fishing; cultural and historical roles of fish and fisheries; impacts on water and fish populations from energy, resource extraction, and land use; native and nonnative fisheries; the intersection of traditional cultural knowledge and western research practices; and the role of the many parties who rely on or enjoy aquatic resources. Spokane’s location in the intermountain west is uniquely positioned to offer a program that tackles all these issues.

The Hybrid Conference Model

The 2022 AFS meeting will employ a hybrid meeting model to create an exciting in-person event but also provide for submission and access to content for those unable to travel to Spokane.  Presenters and attendees will be able to access the core science content through the following formats:

  • Live-Streamed from Spokane – Plenary sessions and selected other events will be live streamed as well as recorded and available online. This option will not be available for most symposia or presentations.
  • In-person Presentations – All oral and poster presentations delivered in Spokane will be pre-recorded and available online to all attendees.
  • Virtual Presentations – Submissions of papers and posters by those unable to travel will be included as pre-recorded content and available for asynchronous viewing but will not presented during sessions in Spokane.

NOTE – We have a team working to develop additional virtual options, but at this time there will not be the ability to have Zoom/Webex access during symposia and technical sessions. Any ‘virtual’ submissions will only be accessible through the meeting website and will not be shown during the in-person conference. For questions related to the virtual meeting component you can contact Julie Defilippi Simpson at [email protected].

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts for symposia and contributed oral/poster sessions can be submitted for either a live, in-person or recorded, virtual presentation.  All presenters will be required to provide a recorded version of their presentation prior to the meeting. The recorded presentations will be made available to all in-person and virtual attendees, during and after the meeting. We will not be able to accommodate live, remote presentations during the conference. Presentation guidelines and additional instructions will be provided in future correspondence.

During the submission process you will indicate if you were invited to speak as part of a symposium session. Abstracts submitted to symposium sessions that are not selected for inclusion will be considered for inclusion in a contributed topic session.

Abstracts should include the following:

  1. Primary Author, Affiliation, and contact information
  2. Co-Authors, affiliations, and emails
  3. Abstract Type (Oral or Poster / Virtual or In-person)
  4. Session
  5. Student Presentation
